This bike comes with the same features as the other Mongoose models, only this one is made for kids (ages six and up) as well as adults. With a steel-frame base and extra wide wheels and tires, this bike’s pretty easy to learn on and can handle multiple terrain types, such as sand and snow. The rigid frame works well for snow and sand riding but loses ability in comparison to a suspended mountain bike. The Argus just so happens to be capable enough for trail riding too. Based on how many miles riders get out of this one, it seems to be a very durable pick. It’s made with a steel frame, a four-inch-wide bike-wheel size, aluminum crank arms, and front and back brakes for optimal riding in anything from sand to snow.
We will definitely stick to mountain biking with his Trailcraft, but I am excited to get my son out on some decent snow rides. I am excited to take my son fat biking this coming winter and provide a complete review. Kid sized fat bike frames are rare so taking him out this winter will be a unique experience. With that said, it was fun seeing my son experience something truly different on the dirt. If you enjoy attracting a lot of attention while riding your bike this is the bike to have.

They are heavy but like it’s said above, more of a workout. So far, I’ve only ridden it around mongoose dirt bike the driveway and already hate the terrible twist shifter. The stock seat/torture device was replaced with an XL wide seat before it was even assembled. World Marathon XC champ Mona Mitterwallner spends more time riding her Scalpel than anyone you’ll probably ever meet.
This bike will outlast my son’s use because of it’s strength and componentry. My son was apprehensive to let loose with the rigid platform. He did say that he noticed a difference in the handling with the big tires and it felt kind of like his Kawasaki KLX 110.

Shifting worked out of the box and functioned well. Most mountain bike steerer tubes are designed for tapered headtubes. If the diameter is 44mm then Cane Creek does make a headset to adapt a tapered fork to the headtube.

Taking the Argus out was a different experience than the norm and we both had fun. Mongoose has given the “go-ahead” to do a long term review to assess the handling and function of the Argus once winter comes. So if you’re curious about how the bike performs in the snow, stay tuned….. The stock seat was very narrow and hard. That is the seat I bought to replace the stock torture device. The new seat is about 13.5″ inches wide and the horn is a lot shorter. It is a lot more comfortable.
For those select families, there is the Mongoose Argus Trail. Finding the right bikemikes has a good suggestion – a used older steel frame mountain bike with no suspension. There is a low level shimano hydraulic disc brake kit that is SO NICE compared to the cable disc brakes. I have a 7 speed Shimano thumb shifter and aluminum mountain bike pedals on the way.
