Cruiser Bikes

Finally, manufacturers have also introduced the “comfort bike” category, to combine the soft ride and upright posture of cruisers with a more conventionally styled bike. Comfort bikes have such features as fenders, suspension seatposts and forks, and large padded saddles with giant springs. All of these features are copied from cruisers, but redesigned to look more like regular road or hybrid bikes.

Beach cruiser bikes epitomize the saying that the journey is the destination. “A cruiser bike is for when comfort, not speed, is the schwinn ebike goal,” says Jeff Shyman, founder and owner of Confederacy of Cruisers, a New Orleans bike tour company. A rack for use with a child bike seat must have a high weight capacity – enough to safely hold the combined weight of the seat and your child. We use an Axiom Transit rack with our child bike seat on our Priority bikes. Every bike on this list has mounts for a rack, but… a HUGE BUT… just because a bike comes with a rack doesn’t mean that the rack is safe to use with a child bike seat. It also doesn’t mean that the bike’s frame shape will work with a child bike seat.

And obviously I’m the CEO of Sixthreezero, but I’m gonna try to do this video in as non-biased as possible, and just really lay it out how I think we’re different, how do our bikes compare. Some front mounted seats, like the Weeride Kangaroo, attach to the frame of the bike. With very swooped, cruiser-style bars, the bars can hit the child when you turn them. We suggest avoiding this style of front-mounted seat if you’re riding a beach cruiser. These days, most beach cruisers offer the option for gears (usually 3 or 7).

This bike has everything needed for summer days at the beach or riding around town or the campground. The E-Coast’s aluminum frame and fork won’t rust like steel ones, and the Gates belt drive never needs chain lube. The 26-inch-diameter x 3-inch-wide tires help the bike float over sand and soak up cracked pavement. The 500W rear hub motor gets the E-Coast up to a 28 mph, and hydraulic disc brakes ensure stopping power.

These features are designed to get you to your destination faster and more efficiently, but like beach cruisers, city bikes perform best on paved streets and sidewalks. We took our single speed Chatham and 7-speed Chatham Plus all the way from Texas to Destin, Florida to test these cruisers in a true beach environment. Besides getting lots of compliments from fellow beach-goers on their vibrant colors, we loved how smooth and easy these bikes performed on the paved trails along the way to Seaside. You’re not constricted by Lycra or expected to keep pace when you’re on one. There’s a good chance you’re wearing flip-flops—and maybe even a bathing suit. Hopefully, you’re near a beach but you certainly don’t have to be.
