Schwinn Coston DX Review

There’s not a lot of choice here, you just turn the console on with a 0/1 toggle switch and either begin pedaling or push down on the giant paddle trigger. This makes the bike easy to use for just about anyone and reduces distractions when riding. If you want to know how fast you’re going you will need to add an aftermarket LCD display as seen on the bike in this review and that could cost ~$25.

I only use the electric power when struggling up hill. I’m thrilled with my new electric bike.” — Melissa H.“Love this bike! It gets us out of the house and enjoy[ing] life.” — Kelly M.“Love my Electric Bike I had pretty much given up on bike rides with the hills in my neighborhood until I purchased my Schwinn electric bike. Now I still get the exercise I need and have the assist when needed.” — Michael S.“Great machine, nice to have assistance when needed, I can get as much exercise as I want! Powering the motor and LED display console is an average sized 36 volt 11.6 amp hour battery pack that is mounted to the downtube. Do be careful of the wire brake line, which is run along the base of the top tube, because it could get snagged or rub into the frame and scratch it over time.

Riding this bike is easy enough, once you remember to turn the key on. Turn the key on back at the battery pack, then turn the handlebar controller on (if you want the assist), get on, and start riding. The second thing to notice is the battery pack removal lever. If you have a key on an electric bike with an expensive, exotic battery pack, it might make sense to lock the pack into the bike somehow. You have schwinn ebike to turn the switch on first, then turn on the bike from the handlebars.

The Schwinn Coston CE falls in the middle of its e-bike model line, offering a slight upgrade over the Schwinn Marshall but without some of the features found on the higher-end Coston DC. The star of the show is its connectivity and functionality with third-party training apps like Peloton, Zwift, and JRNY. Additionally, this bike comes with loads of user-friendly features that help to enhance your workout experience. If manual workouts aren’t exciting enough for you, you have the option of connecting your device via Bluetooth and using apps like Peloton, Zwift, and JRNY. These apps all have a monthly fee but are well worth the cost to have access to thousands of live and on-demand studio classes on Peloton or the interactive virtual training world of Zwift.

On my long rides on a hybrid bike, I averaged 15 mph but once I got going, I realized 20 mph isn’t a big deal. Similar to how you can change gears on a multi-speed bike, you can choose how much the motor assists you, too. If you’re having trouble going up a hill, just increase the assistance to maintain your speed. There is a company called Rechargeable Power Energy (RPE) that can repack and restore your original battery. I have heard good things about them, that they perform this service for mainstream ebike manufacturers and double check the circuits when performing a restore or upgrade. They are located in Nevada and can mail back and forth.

It also managed to get coverage in a lot of business-focused magazines – which is unusual for an electric bike. A tough, well-balanced, affordably priced, single-speed electric bike from a well established brand, available in three frame sizes for improved fit, sporty forward-leaning geometry. No suspension elements but the fork is steel which provides some vibration dampening properties and……

It’s also very balanced because the battery pack (while high up) is in the back and the motor is in the front. “You can use a throttle to control the motor as well as pedal assist [to] cruise at a good clip (the top speed is 20 miles per hour)! Another great feature with the Coston is its charging time, which takes just four hours to go from empty to fully juiced.” — Rolling Stone“Was fairly easy to assemble with YouTube videos. Head and tail lights on the bike are a nice feature. Throttle is separate from the grips so is much safer to ride.” — Ronald H.“This bike is a perfect fit for me! Assembly was to be expected, nothing too challenging but I also had a family member helping…The bike had an amazing amount of ‘Cheat Juice’ (as I call it).
